With a beautiful parkland setting (once the Duke of Bridgewater's estate) the Marriott Worsley Park Golf Course was laid out by Ross McMurray and Michael King of European Golf Design. They have transformed 185 acres of non-descript farmland into a thing of wonder: visually interesting (the Signature Hole Par 3 7th), exciting to play, and full of movement with holes that embrace both the heroic and the delightful, all with plenty of options. It is a layout that is difficult to criticise. The course has a range of tee positions, 8 lakes and 71 strategically placed bunkers. Worsley Park Golf course provides an exiting challenge to golfers of all abilities. It is a friendly course with a very useful practice area and PGA professionals on hand to help. This exciting golf course has been created with strategic bunkering and undulating fairways, utilising indigenous water features, as well as creating new ponds and wetlands. At 6611 yards (par 71) from the back tees, it is a course that requires brains rather than brute strength to achieve a successful score. The golf course has been laid out utilising the natural contours of the terrain and the indigenous water features, the greens and tees are all laid to USGA specifications, making it a truly enjoyable challenge. In July 2004 Worsley Park hosted the European Challenge tour (the 4th largest golf event in England 2004) for the JJB Sports North West Challenge which along with high profile events such as the Professional Footballer's Association golf classic, the Ryan Giggs Testimonial Golf Day, The Mail on Sunday National Golf Club Classic and also the inaugural Sir Alex Ferguson golf Classic, illustrates the course's growing reputation as one of the best golfing venues in the North of England. Worsley Park also offers the keen golfer a 250m practice range, which also includes tees constructed to USGA specification. In addition there is a putting green and a short game practice area conveniently positioned next to the halfway house (at the back of the tenth hole). Marriott Worsley Park Hotel & Country Club was built around Worsley Old Hall and its historic park, just seven miles from Manchester City centre. The golf course was officially opened in May 1999. For business travellers, pleasure seekers or meeting planners, this luxury hotel in Manchester offers the elements for success. Spacious, well appointed guest rooms cradle you in comfort and are wired for high-speed Internet access. Appetites are quickly sated at Brindley's, specialising in traditional English fare with a twist; at Sports & Spikes, serving hearty fare, light bites and snacks; or at the Chimney Bar for afternoon tea or cocktails. Here, a championship golf course challenges you to rise to the occasion, whilst the day spa coaxes you into blissful relaxation. There's also a pool and fitness centre to enjoy.
